EAST Riding of Yorkshire Council will hold a public exhibition, from 10am-7.30pm, on Tuesday, January 15, at the Treasure House, Beverley, outlining the design of the Beverley Integrated Transport Plan (BITP).

The circa £27 million scheme includes the long-awaited and much-needed Beverley Southern Relief Road as well as amendments to the Grovehill junction, Swinemoor roundabout and the Flemingate level crossing and will be on display in the Education Room.

Members of the project development team will be in attendance to answer questions and discuss aspects of the scheme.

Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The public exhibition provides an excellent opportunity for residents to look at the plans for this important infrastructure scheme and ask any questions they may have.

“The Beverley Integrated Transport Plan will provide immediate benefits by allowing local businesses to share in its delivery, providing a boost for the local economy by safeguarding jobs in the construction industry and its supply chain. It will also provide an opportunity for local young people to gain valuable work experience and improve employability and skills.

“While there may be some unavoidable short-term disruption, the long-term benefits for residents and the travelling public will include a reduction in congestion and improved traffic flows.

“The council is committed to investing in the East Riding’s infrastructure and schemes like this, the A164 Humber Bridge to Beverley Route Improvement Scheme and other projects such as the refurbishment of Haltemprice Leisure Centre and other amenities improve residents’ day-to-day lives.”

Completed tender documents have been returned to the council and will be evaluated prior to the completion of a Full Approval bid, which will be submitted to the Department for Transport (DfT) in February.

Subject to the DfT finalising the funding grant, works will begin on site in summer 2013 for completion in early 2015.
