Avoiding energy pinch

GOOLE MP Andrew Percy is holding an Energy Advice Day on Saturday, November 10, alongside British Gas, to ensure that people are aware of options available to them.

Over the next ten years it’s estimated that around £200bn needs to be invested to ensure that the lights stay on and homes stay warm in the UK. With this and increasing international energy demand, the long term outlook for energy is of higher costs. But, just because prices go up, it does not mean that household bills have to as well. There are things that people can do to manage bills:

Among the things that people can do to manage their bills are firstly, check they are on the right tariff; secondly make sure homes are insulated - cavity wall and loft insulation can save around £170 a year on the energy bill.

And thirdly, and probably most important, is the role of community. Some people need a bit of help to get their home insulated, or getting onto the right tariff.

Anyone who has an elderly neighbour, or a relative, should speak to them and help them get help if they’re worried about bills this winter.

Some elderly people will be entitled to the Warm Home Discount, that’s a £130 rebate given to the most vulnerable. Last year 913 British Gas customers got around £110,000 worth of help across this constituency.

This event is being held at The Courtyard in Goole from 11am to 4pm. Everyone is welcome to attend, even if not a British Gas customer, to see about saving money this winter.
