LIKE me, I imagine, most people who've even heard of Krystle Warren will first have heard her music on Later With Jools Holland.
Despite her TV coverage, however, Krystle is still something of an unknown quantity this side of the Atlantic.
With an eclectic range of influences, from soul to jazz to grunge, her style was always going to be a little different from the norm, and many of the songs on her dazzling debut LP are also steeped in jazz.
But it's the voice that matters here the most. I remember the first time I heard Tracy Chapman, spending the rest of the day debating with my mates if it really was a woman singing!
Krystle has a similar, unnervingly deep and rich voice, the sort that covers every note in molten chocolate and honey.
It's sweet, simple, stripped down and totally unpretentious, with a languid mid-Western drawl adding a hint of the exotic.
I can't see this Kansas cowgirl cracking the commercial charts with Circles, but surely someone this laid back in her musical style couldn't give a damn, right?! But if she keeps producing music of this incredible quality, it's only a matter of time before she wins over the great unwashed! A superb debut.
