KIPPI Kaninus is the alter ego of Gudmundur Vignir Karlsson from Reykjavik in Iceland.
He creates subtle multi-layered electronica with melodic evolutions, microbeats, sampled instruments and manipulated sound, and is the newest signing to Brainlove Records.

Kippi started small, with a self-released album in 2000. He made only 50 copies and sold them at his local record shop in Reykjavik. But, as is often the way, from humble beginnings came great things. The follow-up – Huggin – was released throughout Europe and America, culminating in a tour of the US with fellow Icelanders Múm, and Kippi never looked back.

He has since worked on a variety of projects with many of Iceland's most well-known musicians – be it providing electronic textures for the string quartet Amiina, creating percussive experimental music with former Sugarcubes drummer Sigtryggur Baldursson, or singing in a choir with Sigur Ros and Bjork.

Happens Secretly is an introvert, reflective and incredibly personal record. Kippi has clearly poured over every note, making each one count as he moulds his textured sound, weaving an intricate web of musical statements.

It's subtle yet packs a killer punch. Not even Sigur Ros is reaching this heady height of experimentation. It's on another level; another platform. While the music is one for the purists, it certainly has a common touch that makes its appeal universal. If you can ride the storm of emotions, this is a stunning listening experience.
