Poet’s homecoming gig
Paul Lyalls
GOOLE’S very own Paul Lyalls will take part in a “triumphant homecoming” when he stars in a one-off performance at Junction tomorrow night.
The poet, a star of CBBC, has recently released his full collection ‘Catch The Casscade’ and has been shortlisted for the 2012 People’s Book Prize.
Paul, who grew up in Goole, has performed at the venue before, and even appeared at the opening night back in November 2009.
Speaking to the Goole Courier about his return to Junction, he said: “It’s great to be back in Goole.
“I’d advise people to not make any plans the day after February 1- it’s time to get up to Junction and party like it’s 1998!
“I’m hoping it will be a triumphant homecoming and there will be lots of laugh out-loud moments.”
Paul admits he regularly returns home to see family and friends, although he now lives and works predominantly in London.
As a performance poet, Paul has so far gigged 10 Edinburgh Festivals whilst in 2008 he was Poet for the London Borough of Brent, becoming the first poet to perform at the New Wembley stadium.
Paul presented and starred alongside former World Poetry Slam Champion Kat Francois in the CBBC television programme ‘The Big Slam Poetry House’.
He has also gigged in many unusual places including Arsenal FC’s dressing room to a variety of shopping centres.
For tomorrow night’s event he will be joined by regular sell-out John Hegley for a night of comedy, music and spoken word.
Paul will start the evening followed by an extended set from John.
Hegley is a regular on the comedy and spoken word circuit and is known for his sell-out Edinburgh Festival performances.
Tickets for ‘A Night with Paul Lyalls and John Hegley’ (starting at 8pm) are priced at £10 for adults and £8 for concessions.
Tickets can be purchased by ringing Junction’s box office on 01405 763652.
