q CALLING all knitters - a theatre company are looking for knitters to help make their set.
LipService are bringing Inspector Norse (or The Girl With Two Screws Left Over) to Junction in Goole on December 7. A Nordic crime thriller, the play pays tribute to the traditional woollen jumpers and rustic knitwear.
Now the group are looking for local knitters and knitting groups to get involved by bringing their set to life. They’re asking anyone who is able to knit to help make leaves to go on a tree so the seasons can change during the show.
Groups are encouraged to pass on the pattern and work on the leaves before joining together for a ‘Big Knit’ on November 22 at Junction, 2-4pm. This will give people the chance to meet others working on the project and let new knitters have a go.
Anyone interested in the knitting project should email ruth.gtc@btconnect.com for the leaf pattern.
q STARS of the hit film Brassed Off!, The Grimethorpe Colliery Band will be arriving at Hull City Hall on Saturday November 17.
The Grimethorpe Colliery Band is probably the nation’s favourite colliery band with an international reputation for excellence on both the concert and contest stage. The band was formed in 1917 as a leisure activity for the workers at the colliery, by members of the disbanded, Cudworth Colliery Band.
Since then it has featured in film, TV and radio. The band also starred in and provided the soundtrack for the 1996 British hit film ‘Brassed Off!’ which also featured Pete Postlethwaite, Tara Fitzgerald and Ewan McGregor.
Tickets are priced at £19.50 and are available from the Hull City Hall box office on 01482 300300. Alternatively, visit www.hullcc.gov.uk/hullcityhall to book online.
q JASON and his band of Argonauts arrive at Junction in Goole in style next week for Castaway-Goole Music Theatre’s next big show: ‘Fleeced!, a funny new musical written and directed by Phill Sharp. Based on the story of Jason and the Argonauts’ quest for the mystical Golden Fleece, audiences can expect to meet sea monsters, skeletons, fire-breathing bulls, dragons and a few surprises along the way - plenty of fun for all the family.
Rehearsals have been an adventure in themselves, with the 40 strong cast taking to the catchy music of this brand new musical with great enthusiasm and style. Jason (played by Alex Brown) and his Argonauts took a day to improve their sailing skills on location at Scaling Dam Sailing Club near Whitby in July, generously supported by members of the club and local Rotary, and sponsored by volunteers Su and Ian Oakes (volunteers).
Shortly afterwards they appeared on Goole Beach Day music stage with a couple of nautical songs that were well received by the crowd. Rehearsals have included training to build a boat, designed by artist Bryan Tweddle with Castaway Creative, in less time than it takes to sing four choruses.
Fleeced! is at Junction, Goole, between November 21-24 with the matinee performance on Friday beginning at 1pm and other performances at 7pm. Tickets are £8/£6 with discounts for families and groups. Box Office 01405 763652 or online.
