National winners riding high

A GROUP of horse riders from Selby and District Riding Club are national champions.

The team of Kim Richards (riding Sonny), Michael Carnes (on Warrior), Alix Upton (on Marley) and Sharon Bayston (on Turbo) became Open National champions at the Festival of the Horse.

Claire Foster, the club’s Chief D’Equipe, said: “All I heard over the tannoy was ‘first place Selby and District Riding Club’. I screamed! Then the individual scores came out and there was another win for Selby – Sharon Bayston. Well, by this point I was in tears! I would like to thank all my riders and their helpers for all their hard work. They truly deserved to win.”

The competition was made up of a ten-jump show-jumping course and a 17-jump cross-country course.
