Starters orders for Belles

SELBY songbirds the Abbey Belles are holding a fundraising race night next Friday at the Scott Road Community Centre.

Tickets, priced £3 include a light supper, eight races and a Grand National.

Doors open at 7pm and the first race is at 7.30. For more information visit www.abbeybelles.co.uk.

The Belles have also been taking pride of place in Selby Abbey’s production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame/

The group’s spokeswoman Helen Hemingway said: “After a meeting two weeks ago at Selby Town Hall the Abbey Belles will be taking part in this production as the background choral support for the event from Tuesday to Thursday. The Abbey choir with their proficient Latin will be the supporting group on Friday and Saturday. It is a totally new experience and one which we have taken on in trepidation!

“This is the first production of the show and after meeting the director, producer and composer on Tuesday we have been given the thumbs up.

“The idea being to use all the facilities of the Abbey to its full potential to stage a modern version of ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’.
