Ray Davies: Working Man's Café
FORMER Kinks frontman Ray Davies has released his second solo album and, arguably, one of his finest LPs ever.
While last year's Other People's Lives was a lifetime in the making, Working Man's Caf involved a relatively quick output. And I think that translates into the music, which flows easier and exudes classic Ray Davis lyrics, which he sings with the vigour of a newfound youth.
Tracks like Vietnam Cowboy hold no punches, but then Davies has never been afraid to speak his mind, but it's perhaps in the fusion of his revered Englishness and close links to the American South that we see the album shine.
Having assembled a crackerjack band of top Nashville musicians, he breathes real life into a wonderful collection of songs. Stellar stuff and an absolute Ray Davies gem.
