Grow old with a bit of grace and dignity

after being subjected to yet another picture of 54-year-old Madonna gyrating in a thong and fish nets I couldn’t help but scream “put some clothes on you’re old enough to be my mum.”
And it seems I’m not the only one who has tired of the crooner and her risqué outfits.
The superstar came out as a prime example of those who are failing to grow old gracefully in a survey completed by 2,000 women over the age of 45.
The survey surrounded the phenomenon of the new WAGs - not the tantastic shopaholic sportsman’s eye candy of choice but the Women Ageing Gracefully.
Languishing on the list alongside Madonna was weak link Anne Robinson who resorted to the surgeon’s knife to ward off the signs of ageing.
In stark contrast the best examples of this elegant breed of WAGs include Helen Mirren, 67, Joanna Lumley, 66, Dame Judi Dench, 78 - all chic, stylish and most importantly age appropriate.
The survey found that most believe heavy make-up, mini-skirts and glitter become unacceptable once a woman hits 40.
Meanwhile, a third said that women of that age should avoid false eyelashes, and 40 per cent said that lots of blusher was not a good look.
And when it comes to dress sense leather trousers and mini-skirts should be removed from the wardrobe at the age of 41.
In fact the poll found that women believed dressing appropriately was the best way of growing old gracefully!
I really don’t understand Madonna’s mentality; she had more togs on when she was in her 20s.
The phrase mutton dressed as lamb doesn’t even cut it.
Her poor daughter must be beside herself - imagine your mum standing on stage in front of thousands in her underwear.
It’s not just us girls who think women should age with a bit of grace, three-quarters of men surveyed also said that certain looks were ageing on women and they were put off by those who try too hard.
But like Madonna the poll found that most women believe a good diet and a strict skincare regime were key to looking youthful.
It’s just a pity Madonna leaves her gym leotards on when she performs on stage to thousands.
I’m not saying women should lose their identity or immediately dress like a nun when they hit a certain age but putting clothes on would be a start.
