ON A recent visit to Selby (lived there in the 40s), I noticed what a change had taken place – and not for the better.
Where have the three cinemas gone? Seem to have been replaced by supermarkets.

What has happened to the Market Place? Is it finished? I don't like it at all.

New housing estates. Courtneys very nice; Westbourne too big – more like a town. I used to live in Abbots Road – it's very nice.

Top marks for Selby Park, and the bus services to York are very good. Estates from Selby to Barlby are very nice – not too big. I understand the best convenience store in England is in Barlby. Well done!

Come on Selby District Council. Let's have a cinema. I spent many happy hours on the back rows of the three cinemas! Enjoyed my visit, but a bit disappointed by the alterations.
