I'VE called for the burka to be banned when there are security issues involved.
My remarks follow comments by the party's former leader, Nigel Farage MEP, expressing concern muslim veils are a sign of a divided Britain.

UKIP is extremely concerned about this, and because of security concerns, we believe burkas should be banned in public places, such as banks and in schools.

If a headteacher doesn't want them to be worn in his school, they shouldn't be allowed there, but there's no objection for them being worn to and from the premises.

This is a cultural issue, not a religious matter. It's not part of the Koran.

As a libertarian party, we don't believe in banning things, such as fox hunting or smoking, or banning people walking down the street in a burka.

But where security or crime is an issue, then they should be banned in the same way crash helmets are banned.

Godfrey Bloom MEP, Wressle
