CONTRACTORS at Drax and Eggborough power stations returned to work this week after calling off wildcat strike action.
Up to 200 workers downed tools for most of last week in support of colleagues embroiled in a row at the Lindsey oil refinery.

The dispute came after one sub-contractor cut jobs, while another on the same site started hiring new staff.

But after a series of talks, an agreement was reached with Lindsey staff on Monday and further strikes were called off.

A Drax spokesman said yesterday no electricity production was affected during the dispute, adding: "We can confirm all contractors are now back at work."

The action followed copycat protests involving Drax Power Station workers in February during a similar dispute at Lindsey.

On that occasion, about 150 staff staged 48-hour wildcat strikes at the awarding of contracts to non-UK employees.
