CAMPAIGNERS are celebrating this week after signs preventing HGVs travelling through Sherburn were finally erected.
A North Yorkshire County Council trial diversion, directing HGVs away from South Milford and through Sherburn, had seen an increasing number of lorry drivers mistakenly using residential Moor Lane, a problem Sherburn Parish Council chairman Coun Malcolm Dowson and campaigner Charlie Sinclair claimed had been made worse by missing or confusing road signage.

At a Joint Action Group meeting in March, the installation of signage to highlight the 7.5-tonne weight limit restriction and direct HGV drivers to the industrial estate, was made a priority.

But although some signs were installed, residents had to wait another six months until the remaining signs were delivered.

Moor Lane resident Charlie said: "I'm delighted the signs have finally been put up. I've had a drive round the area and there are a couple of signs wrong but, in general, NYCC has done everything we asked for.

"Hopefully, this will now stop lorries coming in to Sherburn and allow trading standards to take action if they do."

Charlie (pictured) added: "I would like to thank North Yorkshire County Council, Selby District Council and the parish council for their actions to try and bring about this result.

"I would also like to thank the Selby Times for helping us in this campaign."
