CREATIVE South Milford students have shaken off competition from their classmates to win a competition to create a non-alcoholic Caribbean cocktail.
The village primary school pupils were set the challenge during curriculum studies with Best Western Milford Hotel head chef Chris Baxter, and top of the class were Sam Woodall's 'Sam's Shuffle' – a refreshing blend of lemon, pineapple, raspberry and cranberry juices with tonic water and crushed ice – and John Stokes Waters' 'Johnny's Jungle Juice', comprising a coconut and pineapple smoothie, together with mango and orange juice, melon and bananas.

School headteacher Sue Atkinson said: "We're currently studying about the culture and food of the island of St Lucia in the Caribbean, and this collaboration with the hotel has been fantastic for the children to get involved in a real event."

The competition promotes the venue's Caribbean charity night, taking place at the hotel on June 20 at 7pm. Guests will enjoy a Caribbean-inspired three-course meal, entertainment, auction and raffle.

Hotel director Shaun Sleath said: "We were very impressed by the standard of entry from the school children, and it proved very difficult to chose one overall winner, hence we selected two cocktails to suit different tastes. I'm sure our guests will enjoy the totally tropical taste."
