REMEMBRANCE Day services led by former RAF pilot the Rev John Hetherington will focus on those fallen and still fighting in current conflicts.
Wreaths will be placed on the memorial at St Wilfrid's Church in Monk Fryston followed by a two-minute silence from 10.50am on Sunday before the special service and audio-visual presentation get underway.

The Rev John Hetherington (pictured) said: "I spent 27 years in the RAF before coming to Monk Fryston, and having experienced it first-hand, I think it's equally as important to remember those currently serving in places like Afghanistan, where a staggering number of young soldiers have lost their lives.

"The service on Sunday will bridge the gap between the past and present, focusing on today's armed forces while providing an opportunity for friends, family and former servicemen to light a candle and say a prayer."

Those attending the service will also see images of soldiers who have lost their lives, hear experiences of those fighting in Bosnia and listen to the Rev Hetherington's personal accounts from his time in Bosnia, the Falklands and the Gulf.

The service will also feature former Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler's first single Remembrance Day, which is being sold to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal.

Other Remembrance Day services include South Milford Royal British Legion, parade, 10.30am, followed by wreath laying at the village's war memorial while Cowick Church service of remembrance is at 3pm.

A parade will set off from Selby Community Centre in Scott Road at 9.30am down Gowthorpe for a 10am service at Selby Abbey followed by a one-minute silence at 11am and laying of wreaths at the war memorial in Selby Park.

There will be a remembrance service at 10am at Priory Church in Snaith followed by a one-minute silence at 11am and a service at St Mary's Church in South Milford at 9.30am followed by laying of wreaths in the church grounds.
