Gruelling day milestone fun

HISTORY was brought to life on June 17 as Cliffe Primary School celebrated its 300th birthday.
Staff and pupils wore fancy dress depicting fashions through the ages to mark three centuries of learning in the village. They also enjoyed a celebration roast chicken dinner ... with an optional serving of gruel!
Classrooms at the school were set up with different themes, including the 1960s complete with a recreation of Liverpool's famous Cavern Club, a Victorian room and an exploration room.
School trustees presented each child with a commemorative mug during a special assembly.
Headteacher Mike Sibley said: "When I was at school, I was given a mug to commemorate a special event. I thought it was something that had died out a bit so we decided it would be a fitting historical gift."
He added: "Everyone got dressed up and there was a very surreal moment at lunchtime when I witnessed Neil Armstrong playing football with Dick Turpin and Fred Dibnah! All the children researched their costumes really well so it was a real life learning experience."
An anniversary-themed fun day takes place on the school field on Saturday from 1 to 4pm. Attractions include a fancy dress competition, pony rides, stalls, tug-o-war, balloon race and a mini concert performed by pupils.
