BUMPER South Milford Fete Week celebrations were enjoyed by thousands of visitors young and old.
The Victorian-themed fete on Saturday included a visit from Thomas the Tank Engine, circus skills display, Punch and Judy performance, fancy dress competition, Victorian tea room, fairground and crafts and performances from South Milford Brass Band and the Northern Comfort Barbershop Singers.
And on Sunday, visitors to the postponed Picnic in the Park enjoyed a sunshine-filled feast with entertainment from top vocalist Laurie Briggs, local talent Tandem and Noise Doctors and bands from Sherburn High School. Many opted to dress up and dine in style complete with tables, chairs and candelabras!
Fete committee chairman Laura Reilly said: "We're delighted all the events went well and were particularly impressed with the huge turnout to both the fete and picnic. The sight of guests enjoying candle-lit dinners on the memorial playing fields was hilarious!"
The fete week events kicked-off on July 5 with the first South Milford Farmers' Market, which raised almost £300, followed by a fishing match for young and adult entrants at the Mushroom Farm Pond – won by Robert Longbottom with a 19lb 7oz catch and junior winners and identical twin brothers Jack and Elliot Taylor, 11, with catches of 11lb 10oz and 10lb 11oz respectively.
Other events included a tea party for mums and babies, art show with wine and live cello music, mother and toddler summer party and the popular children's Lempen Puppet Theatre and African drumming workshop for teens.
An antiques roadshow on Thursday saw former auctioneer and Sherburn Parish Council chairman Coun Malcolm Dowson helping visitors to uncover the history and value of their items.
Poetry from poet-in-fete Glyn Watkins entertained guests to a Olde Rhyme Music Hall event on Friday.
