Fighting fit race for life

OVARIAN cancer survivor Shona Orr has twice battled back from the killer disease to try and help others suffering a similar plight.
Shona, of Park Avenue in Sherburn, was first diagnosed with cancer aged 18 and relapsed just two years later.
Her previously active life was put on hold as she spent several difficult years gradually fighting her way back to health and fitness.
Now the courageous 26-year-old will take part in the Jane Tomlinson 10km Run For All in Leeds on Sunday to raise vital cash for Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Shona (right) said: "I had always been fit and healthy until I was diagnosed with cancer, and enjoyed running at school and university.
"But for a long time, I was too ill to take part in the activities I enjoyed so much.
"I'm delighted I'm now ready to take on this challenge and wanted to run for Yorkshire Cancer Research as it receives no government funding and relies totally on donations and sponsorship money. I hope to raise at least £1,000 to benefit cancer patients young and old, now and in the future."
Shona completed the 5km Race for Life last year, raising £600 for Cancer Research UK, and is now also training hard for Peddle For Pounds – a 47-mile cycle ride taking place at Harewood House on September 7.
