GREEN-fingered Escrick residents, who welcomed visitors to their gardens on June 22, helped raise more than £3,000 for local good causes.
The bi-annual Escrick Open Gardens event saw nine keen gardeners open their doors, while members of the nearby St Helen's Church put on a floral display and cream teas were served in the village hall.

Event committee treasurer Sue Orchard said: "The event went very well. All the visitors seemed to enjoy themselves and provided excellent feedback, and we raised a good amount of money considering the weather was very windy on the day."

Half of the money raised will be donated to St Helen's Church, with the remainder split equally between Hearing Dogs for Deaf People at Cliffe and Escrick Pre-school Playgroup.
