ACTION is being taken to tackle illegal parties in a quiet district village.
North Yorkshire Police have received complaints regarding anti-social behaviour in and around Brockadale Woods Nature Reserve in Kirk Smeaton, including criminal damage, drug taking, thefts from cars and littering.

Officers are now working in partnership with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to stamp out the problem and protect the quality of life for neighbouring residents and genuine visitors to the reserve.

Due to the size of the woods and the fact they stretch into West Yorkshire, bordering Neighbourhood Police Teams are adding their resources to the campaign.

Kirk Smeaton Parish Council and villagers have also backed the ongoing efforts.

PCSO Laura Simpson, of the Selby West Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "Camping, parties and unauthorised public gatherings aren't permitted at this location.

"The message is clear: unless you're visiting the nature reserve for genuine reasons, you're not welcome. We will be monitoring the area closely during coming months, and anyone found behaving in an anti-social manor will be dealt with accordingly.

"We've been told several of these parties have been advertised on social networking websites. If anyone has information as to which websites are being used, please contact me on 0845 6060247."
