VISITORS braved the rain on June 21 to attend the 98th annual Carlton Feast.
Festivities kicked off with a parade of floats through the village to the feast venue, led by Feast Queen Sasha Pearce and her attendants Lucy Everatt and Aislin Veitch.

The event, officially opened by Paddington Bear, featured attractions including quad bikes, side shows, a tombola, raffle and stalls.

Entertainment included displays by Kurley Wurley the Klown and the Freewheelers Fly Ball team, as well as a musical performance by The Jellybean Band.

Carlton Playschool took first place in the fancy dress float competition with a Disney-themed display, while Carlton Brownies were second.

Following the tradition of previous years, the gunge tank returned with unlucky Carlton-in-Snaith-Primary School teacher Ryan Adamson being covered in slime.

Feast committee member Rod Price said: "It was a wet day but it went off in good spirits. It might have been a bit damp but it didn't dampen anyone's enthusiasm, and the feast was well visited. The tombola, as always, was a success and we're now looking forward to having better weather for our 99th feast next year."

As a result of treacherous conditions caused by the heavy rain, several arena events were cancelled and the annual Stapleton Cup foot race was called off.

The money raised on the day, once expenses have been deducted, will be redistributed between community groups who contributed to the feast, as well as helping to pay for a children's Christmas party and fund next year's event.
