Sheffield mum gets on her bike for three-day dash to Paris
Charity cyclist Sarah Fisher, of Mosborough, who is cycling 230 miles to Paris in aid of diabetes research.
SHEFFIELD mum-of-three Sarah Fisher is hard at work in the gym – training for a 230-mile bike ride to Paris.
Sarah, from Mosborough, who works for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals’ out of hours service, is planning to take just three days for the journey in June.
She is raising funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the only charity that helps fund research into ‘type one’ diabetes among young people.
Sarah chose the charity because her eldest daughter, Bethany, 10, a pupil at Eckington Camms School, has the condition.
She said: “I started cycling last year, after receiving a bike under the hospital’s cycle to work scheme.
“I train regularly in the gym, cycle to work and have already achieved my first 100-mile cycle for Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
“Bethany was diagnosed at the age of three, so she can’t remember life without constant finger prick blood tests, carbohydrate counting and insulin injections.
“She also has to live life coping with hypos and hypers – and going to friends for tea can be a worry.
“To help Bethany as much as possible, we have stored stem cells from her baby teeth, as this will be the easiest way to assist her when a cure is finally ready, because the cells will be a 100 per cent match.”
The challenge starts on Friday, June 14, leaving London and then cycling 230 miles to arrive in Paris two days later.
Sarah has organised a fundraising event, with stalls and games, for the foundation on Saturday, between 10am and 1pm, at St. Mark’s Church, Mosborough.
