No justice for Selby Magistrates' Court

JUST how much more of Selby town will vanish in the next ten years? I refer to the possible loss of our court rooms (right), in this instance.

Nicely refurbished, which included access for those people with disabilities. The building is central to the town, with reasonable access to pay and display car parking.

The idea of losing this facility really doesn't bear thinking about, especially when the alternatives are considered. A trip to Pontefract, York or Leeds for justice to be dispensed, but then that's not justice in the true sense of the word, is it?

Have those responsible for looking into the cost reduction even considered the plight of people who live in the outlying villages around Selby, who don't have either their own transport or access to a regular bus service.

The very idea justice can be meted out from a vacant shop in Selby town centre is beyond comprehension. Court rooms have a certain aura about them – the same cannot be said for the suggested alternative.

I totally agree with Ron Humphrys when he says he wouldn't be prepared to administer justice from an empty shop. Such an idea really belittles our justice system.
