ANYONE interested in making their home more energy-efficient should head to a South Yorkshire college today.

Barnsley College’s Low Carbon Centre, on Honeywell Lane in the town, is open to the public from 10am to 2pm.

Coun Phil Davies, who represents Honeywell ward on Barnsley Council and has visited the centre, said: “The centre was opened a year ago, and it really is a fabulous resource.

“Barnsley College uses it to train apprentices in the use of low carbon technology, such as solar panels, air source heat pumps and insulation.

“Industry professionals from across the UK also attend to be trained in the latest low carbon technology.

“For such a dry subject, it’s surprisingly good fun. Families with children would find it interesting to see how walls can be insulated with old jeans, for example.”
